The Problem

Before Kroger Pay, customers faced key challenges:

Slow checkout – Manual card entry & separate loyalty scanning added extra steps.

No seamless rewards integration – Customers had to scan loyalty separately.

Security concerns – Hesitation around using third-party payment apps.

Competitive pressure – Walmart & Target had proprietary payment systems.


Research & Insights

Through customer surveys, competitor analysis, and observational research, we found:

60% of users wanted faster checkout with mobile payments.

40% preferred paying via phone if it was secure & easy.

Walmart Pay’s QR system inspired our scan-to-pay approach.


Solution & Design Approach

QR-based payment for universal compatibility across stores.

One-scan checkout – Pay & apply rewards in a single step.

Embedded within Kroger App for easy access & trust.


Users can manage their payment methods within Kroger Pay by adding a new card or editing an existing one.

 

Users could also manage their Billing Address within Kroger Pay as well.
